OCT 15 12 – 2 PM — Ottawans with an ear for fine music and taste for good eats may indulge both appetites Saturday evening at a unique concert/reception at the First Unitarian Congregation, 30 Cleary Ave., to benefit Just Food, a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable food in our region.

Star of the show is the chamber choir Ewashko Singers, who will celebrate the harvest with a collaboration of food and music. Initially chosen for a live broadcast celebrating the 50th anniversary of Radio Canada International, Ewashko Singers has developed into a flexible vocal ensemble with a core of 24 singers.

All songs will focus on a food theme. And, should anyone get hungry, the event will highlight area farmers, members of Savour Ottawa, at pre- and post-concert receptions including:

Local cheeses displayed (and available for sale) from Canreg Station Farm & Pasture Dairy in Finch, Ont;

Freshly prepared “surprise chutney” from Andrew Craig of Major Craig’s Chutney, who who will have preserves for sale;

Sliced rainbow carrots, peppers, and radishes from Chelsea Gardens.

Food is prepared by volunteers in the church kitchen.

General admission $40; students and seniors $35. Tickets available at The Leading Note, 370 Elgin St., and USC Canada, 56 Sparks St., or at the door. About 150 guests are expected.
